DOUBLE M: THE PARKHURSTS - JP & KENLYN'S INTRVIEWS

J. P. JENNING’S INTERVIEW
1.)    You’re the next generation of the Double M dynasty. Where do you fit in? My mother is Janet Parkhurst Jennings. Her parents were Clay and Suzanna. My father is Prentice Jennings, son of Ralph and Barbara Jennings. I love the Double M as much as any of my previous ancestors.
2.)    Why did you enlist in the Army rather than going to college? You must have known you’d end up going to Vietnam. It’s what my family does. My grandfathers fought in WWI and my dad and uncles in WWII. As for going to Vietnam, I went there willingly as a member of an elite group. Unfortunately I lost my two best friends in that so called war. The only good thing to come out of it was meeting Luke Johansson.
3.)    When you came home from Vietnam, Luke came with you. Were you surprised when he fell hard for your sister, Kenlyn? Not really. Kenlyn became a beautiful woman while I was gone. I certainly don’t blame Luke for falling for her. It’s too bad she decided to join the Peace Corps. The two of them would have made a good team.
KENLYN JENNING BENNETT’S INTERVIEW
1.)    After you met Luke, you decided to go into the Peace Corps. Is that where you met Greg Bennett? Greg and I were both assigned to an island in the South Pacific. He reminded me so much of Luke I got my priorities all wrong. By the time I realized my mistake I was pregnant with Lance. What else could I do? I married the father of my son.
2.)    You and Greg moved to New York after the Peace Corps. How did you and your son like living in the big city? I hated every minute of it. Greg’s mother decided, before I ever met her, that I wasn’t good enough for her son. As soon as we could, we moved into a small apartment. Of course, I went to work in an investment office until Greg could get his practice going. It was hard working when I wanted nothing more than to be at home with Lance.
3.)    Why were you and Lance on the flight that crashed in Minot, North Dakota? Greg walked out on me with the first pretty face that came along. Lance and I were barely making it in Ney York, so I called JP and begged him to help me come home. That God we both survived when so many others died. No one was as shocked as me when Luke walked back into my life in that hospital room.
Like the remainder of the Double M series, DOUBLE M: THE MALLONS, DOUBLE M: THE KENDICKS and DOUBLE M: THE JENNINGS is available on Kindle for $3.99
Thursday and Friday of this week, Sherry’s Pen will interview the characters from one of my other earlier books. Does anyone have any suggestions?

DOUBLE M: THE PARKHURSTS - RALPH & JEFF'S INTERVIEWS

The Great Depression, World War II and Vietnam all have an impact on the Double M ranch in the years from the Depression to 1979. Suzanna and Clay Parkhurst along with Ralph and Barbara Jennings, work to enlarge the Double M ranch while weathering the economic and conflict storms that buffet the rest of the country.

RALPH’S INTERVIEW
1.)  The Depression hit this country pretty hard. From what we hear you and your wife Barbara, along with Suzanna and Clay weathered the storm very well. How did you manage to do that? My father didn’t completely trust banks. When he built our house, he added a secret safe in the basement. Since I kept the books for the Double M as well as Suzanna and Clay, I made sure the majority of our cash never made it to one of the now failing banks.
2.)  By the end of the Depression the Double M nearly tripled in size and Suzanna owned K-Chemical. Your holdings also increased and yet you don’t own a ranch. Why is that? I’m like my father. I enjoy being the ranch manager but I don’t have the headaches Suzanna and Clay have. My holdings are in real estate. Corbit will, one day, grow. I intend to have the land to sell when the time is right.
3.)  Whatever possessed Suzanna to buy K-Chemical? Will you be comfortable working there? The offer came at the right time. Suzanna is no dummy. She knows her son Jeff will never be happy on the Double M. She bought it so Jeff could run it. As for me working there, I’m only helping out until Jeff and his friend Pete Janish can take over. When their working here, I’ll be happy to be back in the saddle doing what I do best.
JEFF’S INTERVIEW
1.)    Your mother purchased K-Chemical so you would have a position after college. Do you and Pete think you can make the company a success? We’re coming out of the Depression. I see great things for the future of K-Chemical as well as Corbit. I’m just glad I didn’t come back to the Double M. I don’t belong there.
2.)    How do you know Pete Janish will be a perfect fit for your company? Pete and I have been roommates at college for the past year. There’s no one in the world I trust more than I do him. I see our friendship like the one Mike Mallon shared with Nevada Jennings. We make a great team.
3.)    I congratulate you not only on your marriage to Carol, but also on your acquisition of Collier Industries. While you were in Chicago, did you see your Uncle Mallon? I invited the son of a bitch to my hotel for lunch. It was the biggest mistake of my life. Everything I’d ever heard about him was true. I swear to God I’ll never tell Ma about meeting him. It would break her heart.

TRANSPLANTED LOVE - LORI & KENT'S SECOND INTERVIEWS

LORI’S SECOND INTERVIEW

1.)    When Kent returned from LaCrosse the two of you got back together. What do you think changed his mind about your relationship? I’m not sure, but I think it had something to do with his brother-in-law Dan. He lost his wife, Kent’s twin sister, and maybe he told Kent not to lose out on something special. Whatever it was, Kent suggested I got to LaCrosse with him for the weekend. It was wonderful meeting his family.
2.)    We’re told Mike was caught threatening your family with a gun. Will you be returning home? Kent and I are leaving in the morning. Thank God I was with Kent in LaCrosse. If I hadn’t been, I’m sure Mike would have killed me.
3.)    You’ve had a rejection scare. Was it because of all the excitement this weekend? At first we thought so, but it turned out to be a reaction to the medication. The worst part was when Kent accused me of losing Kate’s kidney. That just about did me in.

KENT’S SECOND INTERVIEW

1.)    Lorinda accused you of saying she was losing Kate’s kidney. What were you thinking? That’s just it, I wasn’t thinking. At the time, I thought Lorinda was my link to Kate. I was angry to think that Lorinda might lose the precious gift from my sister.
2.)    Do you think this is the end of things for you and Lorinda? I hope not. I loved her before I learned of the kidney transplant. I loved her more when I learned she had Kate’s kidney. Non I’ve screwed everything up and I’m the one who has to fix it.

Since this was my healing book, I dedicated it to those who wait for a transplant and those who so willingly sign their donor cards. Without one of those signed cards, my husband might have been one of those waiting without receiving. My hope is that everyone who reads this will be moved to sign their donor cards. Donated organs, kidneys, hearts, lungs, eyes, and pancreases save lives. We’re living proof of it.

TRANSPLANTED LOVE

Twenty-one years ago on July 10, 1991, my husband, Bob, received the Gift of Life, a Kidney Transplant at UW Hospital in Madison, WI. TRANSPLANTED LOVE was written as my healing book.
Lori Carter is suspicious when her best friend, Jan, Invites her to a dinner party to be the blind date for the new guy in town, Kent Saunders.
Kent’s been in town for a few weeks but hasn’t socialized much. The death of his twin sister in a car accident is too fresh in his mind to be interested in going out for fun.

LORI’S FIRST INTERVIEW

1.)    You’re a lovely young lady. I’m surprised you’re not in a relationship. Why would you accept a blind date? I was engaged to be married five years ago, but when I went into kidney failure, my fiancĂ©, Mike, dumped me. Being on dialysis and working for the last four years didn’t give me much time for dating.
2.)    You and Kent seemed to hit it off right away. What happened to break the two of you up? I didn’t want Kent to know I was the Bionic woman, at least not for a while. It was nice being normal for the first time in five years. Then Mike met Kent in the locker room at the Athletic Club. He was the one who told Kent about me. I don’t know why Kent told me he never wanted to see me again.

KENT’S FIRST INTERVIEW

1.)    I’m so sorry to hear about your sister. It had to be hard to start socializing after something like that. What attracted you to Lori? You’re kidding right? To start with, her given name is Lorinda. I thought it fit her perfectly and it’s a shame she allowed someone to shorten it. Secondly, she’s beautiful. It’s hard to believe she’s not with someone. The guy she was engaged to had to be a real jerk to let her slip through his fingers.
2.)    You met Mike at the Athletic Club. What did he tell you that drove you away from Lorinda? He told me what Lorinda didn’t. She’s had a kidney transplant. I could accept anything but that. You see when my sister died, she donated her organs. Those ghouls could hardly wait for her to take her final breath before they started cutting into her. The whole thing is unnatural and it makes me sick to my stomach. It’s almost like some evil scientist building a monster in his lab.
3.)    Right after you broke up, you went to LaCrosse for the weekend. What happened there to change your kind about Lorinda? I went to visit my brother-in-law, Dan. The accident left him in a wheelchair but for some reason he’s not as bitter as I am. What he showed me was a letter from the recipient of Kate’s kidney. The letter was from Lorinda. After I read it, Dan took me to the dialysis center at the hospital while he did physical therapy. When I saw what Lorinda had to go through, I could really appreciate the gift my sister was able to give her.

DOUBLE M: THE KENDRICK'S SUZANNA AND MALLON'S INTERVIEWS

SUZANNA'S INTERVIEW

  1. It sounds like you are a very sought after young woman. What is it like to have two men fighting over you? It was all such a mess. Clint spent a lot of money on me and in the long run all he wanted was the Double M. Thank God I found out the truth and Clay was able to save me from the biggest mistake of my life.
  2. With the war in Europe, I'm sure you were running short handed. How did you keep things going on the ranch? Nevada and the older hands kept things as normal as possible. Of course, Aunt Marion and Grandma Mallon took over the household duties including taking care of my son Jeff, so I could ride with the men.
  3. How did Jeff adjust to his father's return? Jeff was so young when his father went to war, I doubt he ever truly accepted Clay when he returned. Then Kenny and Janet were born and he had to share the spotlight. I can tell you that's not something Jeff is good at doing.

MALLON'S INTERVIEW

  1. You and Clay served together in the war. I know you were both injured. Is it anything permanent? Hell yes, it's permanent. Unlike Clay, who got his brain scrambled for a while, I had a REAL injury. I got shot in the knee and I'll walk with a cane for the rest of my life.
  2. Does it bother you that your sister is out working with the men so your father can send you money? Don't give me that crap. That ranch will belong to Suzie once Pa is gone. It's her future. The least Pa can do is invest in my future as well.
  3. Your father left you and Suzanna as equal owners of the Double M. Will you return to Montana to run it? I've got more interesting things to do than herd a bunch of dumb cows. That's Suzie's passion. She'll pay dearly to get me out of your life, or I'll find someone willing to meet my price.

This book, along with the remainder of the Double M series, DOUBLE M: THE MALLONS, DOUBLE M: THE PARKHURSTS and DOUBLE M: THE JENNINGS are available on Kindle for $3.99.

DOUBLE M: THE KENDRICKS - KATIE & AUSTIN'S INTERVIEWS

DOUBLE M: THE KENDRICKS

Coming into the 20th century, Katie and Steve Kendricks have taken over the running of the Double M. Katie's death brings her daughter, Suzanna and her husband Clay Parkhurst, to the forefront and leadership of the Double M, especially after Mallon Kendricks decides on a life as far away from the Double M as possible.

KATIE'S INTERVIEW

  1. Growing up in Wisconsin, were you homesick when you returned to the Double M? I miss the family and friends we left behind, but Wisconsin can't begin to compare to Montana.
  2. You and Austin both returned to the Double M at the same time. Did you ever worry about having to share the ranch with him? I would have gladly shared the ranch with my brother, but his heart has always been on the reservation. We'll never have a brother/sister relationship but we do love each other.
  3. Nevada recently married Marion Howe and now they've adopted a baby. How does this affect you? With Pa and Maggie in Washington DC, it's wonderful to have Marion so close. As for Ralph, it's like having another baby. He's just a little younger than my children, Suzanna and Mallon.

AUSTIN'S INTERVIEW

  1. Do you ever think you'll return to the Double M permanently? My life is on the reservation. I'm doing the work I've always wanted to do by being a doctor for these people. The woman I called mother was a healer and I'm doing her work.
  2. A fire took the life of your wife and son and almost took yours. Are you still completely dedicated to the people on the reservation? There are good people among both the whites and the Indians. The man who started our house on fire was a renegade. The tribal council dealt with him.
  3. Mike's passing affected Katie badly. How did you handle it? Mike and I didn't have a traditional father/son relationship. I lost my father when Lone Eagle died. As for Mike, I've lost a good friend. He will be missed.

Tomorrow, the family will be moving further into the 20th century. While dealing with World War I Katie's daughter Suzanna will be tested as the owner of the Double M.

THE TOUR - RICH & JANICE'S SECOND INTERVIEWS

RICK'S SECOND INTERVIEW

  1. I'm told you're flight arrived in Copenhagen before Janice got in. Did you have any idea the two of you would be sharing a room for the next two weeks? What do you think? When I came out of the shower, I was shocked to see a woman in my room. Not just any woman, but Janice Walters. At least the voice belonged to her. I certainly didn't expect to see a beautiful woman with dark hair and a slim body behind that voice.
  2. Considering you couldn’t get another room, how do you feel about having a surprise roommate for the entire tour? I hate to admit it, but after seeing her, I looked forward to it. Contrary to popular opinion, I'm not a womanizer. I'm a flirt, but I'm not a chest. Of course, if I had a change with Janice, I wouldn't say no.
  3. Inga Einerson is your tour guide for the company offering this tour. Is she someone you might be interested in? Inga's a child. Oh, she can put on the charm. I'm sure she's out to add another notch to her belt. I've run across people like her before. Let's face it, after meeting Janice, I don't want to settle for second best.
JANICE'S SECOND INTERVIEW

  1. I've heard about your flight delay. Is it a bad omen about things to come? Of course it is. First our flight from Chicago was delayed, then when I finally made it to my room, I ran smack dab into a half naked Rick Parker.
  2. When Rick couldn't get another room, how did you feel about sharing a room with him for the entire two week tour? Of course I didn't LIKE it, but there was nothing else I could do. I've often fantasized about sharing a room with a hot guy, but when push came to shove, I decided to grin and bear it.
  3. Do you see Inga Einerson as competition? What do you mean competition? Let's face it, she could easily be my daughter. Any man would be a fool to pick me over her. As much as I'd like Rick to notice me, I doubt it will happen.
Many years ago, when I was a travel agent, I escorted twenty senior citizens on a two week tour of Scandinavia. Unlike Janice Walters, I didn't have a hot guy in my room, but I did enjoy a wonderful tour. Of course, everything that happened on the tour itself is the truth. Those senior citizens who accompanied me were some of the greatest people I've ever met. I thank them all for such wonderful material for this book.

THE TOUR is now available at Kindle for $3.99.
